Team Alliance Plastics

Is 2007 Kellogg’s United Way Basketball Tourney Champ

Battle Creek, MI – Team Alliance Plastics is this year’s winner of the Kellogg’s United Way Basketball Tournament. The championship game was played before the Battle Creek Knights’ home opener on April 5, 2007 at Kellogg Arena. Team Alliance Plastics won in overtime over Blu Fish Consulting. Over the last two months, eight teams played preliminary games at Triple Threat Sports to earn a spot in the championship game. Members of Team Alliance Plastics include: Travis Sleight, Jon Huerta, Andy Jenkins, Derrick Sayers, Dereck McGlothan, Carl Mulder, Charlie Johnson and Mike Cohen.

This was the fourth annual Kellogg’s United Way basketball tournament. A portion of proceeds from ticket sales benefited United Way, as did team entrance fees. In addition, Kellogg Company organized a silent auction and 50/50 raffle to benefit United Way. Teams participating in this year’s tournament included:  two teams from Kellogg Company, Blu Fish Consulting, Triple Threat Sports, Duncan Aviation, Denso Manufacturing, TRMI and Alliance Plastics, Inc.

“Kellogg demonstrates enthusiasm for United Way year-round,” said Mike Larson, president and chief professional officer of United Way of Greater Battle Creek. “This basketball tournament is just one of many events Kellogg employees organize to help support United Way and our mission of changing the lives of individuals in need.”

United Way of Greater Battle Creek also celebrated its donor recognition night during the tournament game and subsequent Knights game. All donors were offered free tickets to the game as a way to say “thank you” for supporting United Way and its work in the community.

“We thank the Battle Creek Knights for working with us to offer the tickets to our donors,” said Larson. “Most importantly, though, we thank our donors. Their generosity makes our community a better place for everyone.”

United Way of Greater Battle Creek addresses some of our community’s most pressing problems and measurably improves the lives of individuals in need.  United Way does this by raising dollars that fund more than 45 local programs operated by more than 30 non-profit agencies or organizations.  United Way also collaborates with local organizations and people to identify and address emerging needs and issues.
